Penance

Penance

An act of self-mortification or devotion performed voluntarily to show sorrow for a sin or other wrongdoing done.

To pronounce clear of guilt or blame. Through good works.

Punishment or self-discipline to which one voluntarily submits to show regret for having done some wrong doing ,done to another. Remorse for your past conduct. Voluntary self-punishment in order to atone for some wrongdoing.

Penance is un-biblical, it is based on good works instead Messiah alone for the forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with YHWH, it teaches that a person must perform works to make himself right with YHWH. There is no way that anyone is able to remove his sin or wrong doing done to another through any of his sin-stained or guilt efforts.

The Roman Catholic Church, because it adds works to the finished work of Yahusha in order to be made right with Yahweh, thus preaches a false gospel. "For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of Yahweh." (Eph 2:8)

His blood covers our transgressions - If we do a wrong to another, if we are unable to go to this person for one reason or another, then we are to take this to the throne of God, not through works of our own, but through Yahuah, and His Lamb, our Savior Yahusha Messiah.
Man's assumed power to save himself by his own works, entirely apart from and in spite of the Master. It repudiates the Master in repudiating His Word.

"The penance the confessor imposes must take into account the penitent's personal situation and must seek his spiritual good. It must correspond as far as possible with the gravity and nature of the sins committed."

"(Penance) can consist of prayer, an offering, works of mercy, service of neighbor, voluntary self-denial, sacrifices, and above all the patient acceptance of the cross we must bear."

But YHWH has never demanded good works for forgiveness of sins:
"For thou, Yahuah our Elohim, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee." Psalm 86:5

The Bible declares that Yahweh’s people are justified through Yahusha Messiah, not good works:
"Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Yahusha Messiah... for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified." Galatians 2:16

Messiah paid the full price for our sins at Calvary. To believe that good works are necessary to recover one's "full spiritual health" is to deny YHWH'S Word. Yahweh makes this promise to all who put their faith in Yahusha Messiah:

YHWH promises never to remember the sins of true believers, and declares that once sins are forgiven through faith in Messiah, there is no more offering for sin. What this means is, there aren't any works you can do that will cause your sins to be forgiven. Messiah did it all!
